Nick Saban gave Trent Richardson a pep talk before Raiders camp

Nick Saban whipped Trent Richardson into shape for a few years at Alabama.

So it's no surprise who the running back turned to before his first Raiders season.

"Anytime I see coach Saban, he always gives me a good talking to -- life lessons, what I need to do, what I need to know, just getting my agendas updated," Richardson told AL.com. "He always tells me, 'Keep all the clutter out of your head.'"

Richardson could use a clear head at training camp in Napa. He landed a two-year deal, but if he can't shed his bust label, the Raiders will surely shed him.

No one knows that more than the former Crimson Tide running back -- all thanks to his college coach.

"He (Saban) always tells me the NFL is not like college football," Richardson said. "It's much more of a business side, and you've got to make sure you're doing everything you can that you got there and more. He just reminds me: It's just a lot of opportunity out there."

Richardson has a huge opportunity staring at him this summer. He can shed the dreaded bust label if he makes the most of his Raiders chances.
