Yankees' Teixeira, Gardner out of lineup

Published Aug. 25, 2014 6:15 p.m. ET

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) Yankees first baseman Mark Teixeira is out of the starting lineup so he can rest a sore left hamstring.

Outfielder Brett Gardner also remained out with an ankle injury for Monday night's makeup game in Kansas City.

Teixeira says he felt some soreness in the hamstring Friday night against the White Sox but played through it over the weekend. He hopes to be back in the lineup Tuesday night in Detroit.

Gardner also is hopeful that his right ankle will allow him to play Tuesday.
