Wrigley Field bleacher renovation might not be done by Opening Day

The timeline may be off for the Chicago Cubs to have the Wrigley Field bleacher renovation done by Opening Day.

Cubs spokesman Julian Green says unseasonably cold and windy weather is partly to blame. He also says city of Chicago crews installing a new water main are also keeping the Cubs from starting deep foundational work. The home opener against St. Louis is April 5.

Green says given previous April attendance, the team can accommodate all bleacher season ticket holders in the grand stands. He says the Cubs will consider refunds or credits for those who don't want to sit in the stands.

The demolition of the bleachers is part of a larger $575 million project. The Cubs are also building a jumbo video board and six outfield signs.
