Published May. 10, 2011 6:18 a.m. ET

Los Angeles Angels left fielder Vernon Wells has been placed on the 15-day disabled list with a strained groin.

Wells was injured while running to first base in the fourth inning of Monday night's 8-0 loss to the Chicago White Sox.

He is batting .183 with four home runs and 13 RBI in 35 games. The three-time All-Star and three-time Gold Glove winner was acquired from Toronto on Jan. 21 with four years and $86 million remaining on a $126 million, seven-year contract he signed with the Blue Jays.

It is the fifth time the 13-year veteran has been on the DL and the first time since 2008.
