Upton brothers leave with injuries

Brothers B.J. and Justin Upton left the Braves' game against the Reds on Friday night with injuries, making a clean sweep of the Atlanta outfield in two days.

Jason Heyward was held out after straining his right hamstring on Thursday night.

B.J. Upton strained a muscle in his right leg when he charged Todd Frazier's run-scoring triple in the first inning. Upton missed the ball as his right knee dug into the grass in center field. The ball skipped off his glove and hit his left knee.

Upton appeared to favor his right side as he walked slowly off the field, accompanied by assistant trainer Jim Lovell. Rookie Joey Terdoslavich entered the game, joining Justin Upton and Reed Johnson in the patchwork outfield.

Justin Upton strained his left calf while running to first base in the seventh. Tyler Pastornicky replaced the younger Upton in the outfield.

The Braves said Justin Upton would be re-evaluated on Saturday.

Heyward may miss the final two games of the series but said Friday he hopes to avoid the disabled list.

Jordan Schafer is already on the DL with a right ankle injury. The Braves announced Friday that an MRI revealed a stress fracture in Schafer's ankle, added three to four weeks to his expected recovery period.

Evan Gattis, a natural catcher who has made 11 starts in left field, also is on the disabled list with a right oblique injury.
