Twins' Michael Cuddyer to have surgery to clean up right knee

Twins first baseman Michael Cuddyer said Monday he will have surgery to clean up his right knee, which bothered him throughout the season.
Cuddyer was one of several Twins who cleaned out their Target Field lockers Monday morning. Their season came to an end Saturday in New York with a 6-1 loss to the Yankees in Game 3 of the American League Division Series.
Cuddyer said he needs arthroscopic surgery on the knee to clean out debris that has bothered him "pretty much the whole season. But there's not one guy in this clubhouse that didn't have something (bothering him)."
General manager Bill Smith said a handful of other players likely will have surgeries when all is said and done but didn't have specifics.
"We're scheduling a number of MRIs and getting guys looked at," he said. "Normally we have several guys with some kind of cleanup work done, and one of our goals is to get them all done before they get out of town.
"We want to get them done as quickly into the offseason as we can, so they can have the entire offseason to rehab and have the best chance to be healthy by spring training."
Liriano healthy: For the first time in his major league career, Francisco Liriano will head home to the Dominican Republic healthy.
"It feels much better," he said.
Since an elbow injury cost him the last part of his 2006 season, Liriano has been limited each season, from missing all of 2007 after Tommy John surgery to struggling through a 5-11 campaign in 2009.
Finally healthy, he went 14-10 with a 3.62 earned-run average this season.
Liriano said he's tired after pitching 191 1/3 innings, but otherwise feels good. He used winter ball to get his groove back last offseason, but won't do that this year.
"I'll go home, refresh, just play catch and then maybe pitch a couple of games in January," he said.
Briefly: Reliever Jose Mijares will begin winter ball Nov. 10 in the Venezuelan League.
