Trumbo excited about 'jaw-dropping' potential of Mariners' offense

Though the Seattle Mariners continue to sputter along at 24-30 entering Friday, Mark Trumbo is eager to participate in an offense that he sees capable of doing big things.

In his M's debut Thursday night, the newly-acquired slugger went 2-4 in the M's 2-1 loss to the Tampa Bay Rays.

Despite that, and despite Seattle's extended problem scoring runs, Trumbo replied with the following when Larry Stone of the Seattle Times asked him for his thoughts on joining the club: "You look at the potential and possibility, it’s pretty jaw-dropping."

As it turns out, Trumbo was very excited to hear where the Arizona Diamondbacks were sending him: “When I found out this was the team I was going to, I couldn’t have been happier,’’ he said. “I’ve loved coming here when I was with the Angels. It’s one of my favorite places in the country, or the world, for that matter. Just really excited for the opportunity to start here and contribute to an excellent ballclub.”

Trumbo did his part on Thursday, but the rest of the Mariners didn't. Moving forward, it will be intriguing to see how, if at all, his presence is able to help pull the M's out of their offensive doldrums.
