Tigers RF Boesch pulled from lineup with sore knee

Published Jul. 6, 2011 5:12 p.m. ET

Detroit right fielder Brennan Boesch was scratched from the lineup on Wednesday after fouling a pitch off his right knee the previous night.

Boesch was originally in the lineup against Tyler Chatwood and the Los Angeles Angels but was removed because of soreness. Don Kelly replaced Boesch in the lineup and was inserted into left field, with Andy Dirks shifting to right.

Boesch fouled a pitch from Dan Haren off the inside of his knee in the third inning Tuesday, grimacing in pain for a few moments before finishing his at-bat with an inning-ending double play. He was taken out in the bottom half of the third.

Boesch is hitting .307 with 12 homers and 40 RBIs.
