Tigers OF Collins appears to direct obscene gesture at fans

Updated Mar. 4, 2020 5:38 p.m. ET

DETROIT (AP) Detroit Tigers center fielder Tyler Collins appeared to direct an obscene gesture at his own booing fans after misplaying a flyball Monday night.

Collins extended the middle finger on his left hand and waved it from right to left, and also appeared to yell an obscenity. He seemed to lose a flyball from Oakland's Marcus Semien in the lights, and an error charged to left fielder Justin Upton allowed Semien to reach third, bringing on the boos.

Semien scored after Billy Burns, the next batter, hit a single to end pitcher Jordan Zimmermann's scoreless streak at 24 1/3 innings.

Collins entered batting .125 (2 for 16) on the season. He has appeared in 88 games over three seasons with the Tigers.
