Strasburg activated for Indians' game

Published Jun. 16, 2013 1:00 a.m. ET

The Washington Nationals have activated right-hander Stephen Strasburg from the 15-day disabled list to start Sunday's game against the Cleveland Indians.

Strasburg has been out with a strained back muscle and will pitch for the first time since May 31 against Atlanta. He left that game after two innings.

Strasburg is 3-5 with a 2.54 ERA in 12 starts. The Nationals shut down the 24-year-old ace last September, a year after he had Tommy John surgery. Strasburg pitched 159 1-3 innings and didn't appear in the postseason.

Left-hander Xavier Cedeno, who had no record and a 9.39 ERA in seven relief appearances, has been optioned to Triple-A Syracuse.
