Rosenthal: Reds' Votto getting MRI on knee; DL stint likely

Reds first baseman Joey Votto is getting an MRI on his left knee and a stint on the disabled list appears likely, FOX Sports 1 Insider Ken Rosenthal reports.

Votto, who struck out all three times he came to bat Thursday, had surgery on the same knee in July 2012 to repair torn cartilage. He missed six weeks before returning to action in early September. 

Votto has had a terrible start to May with a .209 batting average and .765 OPS, and his current .257 batting average and .859 OPS would be career lows.

The loss of Votto for even 15 days would hamper the Reds, who already are missing several key injured players, including right fielder Jay Bruce (knee), catcher Devin Mesoraco (hamstring), right-hander Mat Latos (knee) and lefty Tony Cingrani (shoulder).

At 18-21, the Reds trail the Brewers by seven games in the NL Central. The Reds begin a six-game road trip Friday night in Philadelphia, and Votto did not make the trip with the team.
