Rockies striking out at historic pace

The Rockies picked up a rare win on Tuesday, but they still struck out 10 times. The team has now had double digit strikeout figures in seven consecutive games -- including a franchise record 18 times against Clayton Kershaw and five Dodger relievers last Friday. Major leaguers strike out more nowadays than they used to, but the way Rockies hitters are whiffing is high even by today’s standards.
When they struck out 11 times on Monday, they became only the 11th team in the last 100 years with six straight games of 10 or more strikeouts, according to Purple Row. The streak reached seven on Tuesday with hitters striking out 10 times. This puts them one game shy of the modern major league record of eight, according to MLB.com. That record was set in 2011 by the Padres.
Charlie Blackmon leads the team in strikeouts with 35. Both Carlos Gonzalez and Drew Stubbs come in second with 30 each, but Stubbs’ 30 have come in only 50 at-bats.
