The Colorado Rockies and third baseman Ian Stewart avoided arbitration by agreeing to a one-year, $2,287,500 deal.

The Rockies' top pick in the 2004 draft, Stewart has had a series of ups and downs the last four seasons.

Since his major league debut in 2007, Stewart has hit .245 with 54 home runs and 181 RBIs. Twenty-five of those homers came in 2009, when he hit .228. He hit .256 last year, when he missed five weeks with a strained muscle in his right side.

Stewart asked for $2.6 million and the Rockies countered at $2.15 million.
