Rockies SS Tulowitzki wants to play defense if he's going to DH

No two hitters on the Rockies have been hotter lately than third baseman Nolan Arenado and shortstop Troy Tulowitzki. On Wednesday afternoon, Arenado’s 17-game hitting streak came to an end, but Tulowitzki’s 14-game hitting streak remained intact as he sat on the bench.
Resting Tulo on a day game after a night game is not unusual, but it is perhaps unusual that his hot bat was not utilized at DH given that the Rockies were playing in an American League park. Per the Denver Post, Tulo explained the situation:
"If I'm going to be the DH, I would say: 'Hey, just put me in the lineup. I wanna play defense,' "
Rockies manager Walt Weiss apparently knows this so he didn’t even ask him to DH, according to the Post.
It’s often said that aging National League hitters can extend their careers in the American League by DHing in their later years. Seems like that probably won’t be the case with Tulo.
