Rockies prospect David Dahl suffers lacerated spleen

Published May. 29, 2015 12:50 a.m. ET

Scary can injuries happen in baseball: hitters can get hit in the head by a pitch, pitchers can be hit by batted balls and fielders can collide going after pop flys. One of the Rockies’ top minor league prospects, David Dahl, suffered the latter, and it turned out to be quite severe.

The center fielder for the New Britain Rock Cats collided with second baseman Juan Ciriaco and had to be hospitalized with a lacerated spleen, according to his father Mike Dahl. The Mobile (Ala.) Press-Register quotes his father with details on the extent of the injuries:

"He took a knee to the spleen. They're just trying to save it now. He got hit in the face, the nose, the spleen, a bunch of different places, but that's the main thing right now.”
