Rockies' Paulsen making case for first base in Morneau's absence

With Justin Morneau on the disabled list due to the lingering effects of prior concussions, the Rockies have been splitting playing time at first base between former catcher Wilin Rosario and rookie Ben Paulsen. Rosario has started at first base 14 times since May 14, and Paulsen has played at least parts of 12 games at first since being called up from Triple A on May 19. Manager Walt Weiss praised Paulsen the other day, per the Denver Post:
"He's certainly made a case for himself," Weiss said of Paulsen. "He's a big-league first baseman who could get a lion's share of opportunity in the future.”
Rosario is hitting .271 since his return from the minors on May 10, and he’s only hit one home run. Meanwhile, Paulsen is hitting .333 with four homers and a 1.040 OPS.
Despite the praise of Paulsen though, Weiss has made it clear that once Morneau returns, he’ll be at first. Per the Post, ”When Justin is ready to play and he's himself again, he's our first baseman," Weiss said.
