Report: Hamels would waive no trade clause for Yankees

Cole Hamels wants to pitch for a contender and he wants to pitch for a contender for the entirety of his contract. Enter the New York Yankees.
According to a report from the New York Post, Hamels would waive his no-trade clause should the Philadelphia Phillies and Yankees agree to a deal:
There are a number of contenders chasing Hamels, and the Yankees would be one of those teams he would accept a trade to for multiple reasons, but mostly because he knows the Yankees will put themselves in position to contend for the length of his contract, which runs through 2018.
“The opportunity to play for a team that could ultimately get to the World Series is what every guy hopes for and what every guy works for, starting with the offseason and spring training,’’ Hamels told The Post.
“There are certain periods in your career, which are your peak years, and that’s where you want to make the most of your impact, and I think that’s where the situation really is. To make the most of my impact, the opportunities have to be there, that’s how you become even better.
“That’s really how you get recognized for the work you put in.’’
Hamels is having another Hamels-caliber season, owning a 2.96 ERA over 94.1 innings while striking out 103.
