Report: Four still in mix to buy Dodgers

There appears to be four groups left in the bidding for the Dodgers, the Los Angeles Times reported Tuesday, citing sources.

Major League Baseball is expected to submit the four remaining bidders to a vote of all 30 owners next week, after rejecting bid groups led by Shamrock Holdings chief Stanley Gold and the family of the late Roy Disney, and another by former YES Network chief Leo Hindery and Colony Capital chairman Tom Barrack.

The group of former Nationals and Braves president Stan Kasten and NBA legend Magic Johnson currently has the highest bid, at $1.6 billion, according to the report.

The other three bids — from hedge-fund billionaire Steven Cohen, St. Louis Rams owner Stan Kroenke and a partnership between Memphis Grizzlies owner Michael Heisley and Ares Capital co-founder Tony Ressler — are all worth at least $1.3 billion.

The Dodgers' sale price is expected to eclipse the $1.1 billion record for a North American pro sports franchise, set when Stephen Ross bought the Miami Dolphins in 2009.

The team is being sold by owner Frank McCourt in a process overseen by the league.
