Reds' Finnegan loses no-hit bid with 2 outs in 7th vs Cubs

CHICAGO (AP) Cincinnati Reds left-hander Brandon Finnegan lost his bid for a no-hitter to David Ross with two outs in the seventh inning against the Cubs in Chicago's home opener.
Ross lifted a soft line drive into left-center field for the Cubs' first hit Monday night.
Finnegan struggled with his control and was helped by some solid defense. Left fielder Adam Duvall raced to the gap and sprawled near the warning track to catch a drive by Jason Heyward in the first inning. In the second, Billy Hamilton made a sliding grab in shallow center against Anthony Rizzo.
Finnegan walked the hitter after Ross and was pulled with five strikeouts and four walks in 6 2/3 innings.
Finnegan was the main piece acquired when Cincinnati traded ace Johnny Cueto to Kansas City last season. He tossed six strong innings with nine strikeouts in a 3-2 win over Philadelphia in his first start this season.
