Reds avoid arbitration with RH Jared Burton

Published Jan. 6, 2011 11:42 p.m. ET

Reliever Jared Burton and the Reds agreed to a one-year, $750,000 deal on Thursday, leaving four Cincinnati players eligible for arbitration.

Burton spent most of last season with Triple-A Louisville, where he was 2-4 in 33 games with a 2.61 ERA. He was sidelined by a thyroid problem and strained muscles in his left side.

He made four hitless appearances after the Reds called him up in September.

Burton also got performance bonuses: $20,000 each for finishing 30 games and 40 games, and $25,000 for finishing 50 and 60 games.
