NEW YORK (AP) A rain delay in the ninth inning at Yankee Stadium has kept Texas and New York waiting past midnight, with no word on when the game might resume.

Yankees closer Aroldis Chapman held a 6-5 lead Monday night when the game was stopped with a Rangers runner on first base, no outs and a 3-1 count on Shin-Soo Choo.

Umpires halted the game at 10:40 p.m. By 12:15 a.m., it was still raining, the tarp was on the field and there were only a handful of fans left in the ballpark.

If the game doesn't resume, it would be over at that point with the Yankees winning and all stats counting.

The start of the game was delayed 21 minutes because rain was in the area, but not a drop fell at the stadium until the middle innings.
