Polanco staying positive through slump

Gregory Polanco has certainly had flashes of brilliance.

The Pirates outfielder burst onto the scene last season, but 2015 has not been quite as kind. Polanco is mired in a slump right now, but the young outfielder isn't letting the struggles get to him and is focused on the positives.

“That's where my focus is right now,” Polanco told Pirates.com. “Just trying to be me and do what I can do and not try to do too much.”

Polanco had a hit in 13 of his first 14 Major League games and started his career with an 11-game hitting streak.

Obviously those numbers weren't going to keep up throughout his career, but the Pirates are hoping he can start to develop some more consistency in his second season.

While the results haven't been there quite yet, the team isn't worried because they know Polanco will adjust and although his results defied logic a bit last season, every player goes through slumps and learning curves.

"He obviously had the tremendous start," Bucs general manager Neal Huntington said Sunday. "The league adjusted. And he's working to make that adjustment back.”
