The Pittsburgh Pirates placed leadoff hitter Starling Marte on the 15-day disabled list Saturday with a bruised right hand.

Marte was injured when he was thrown out trying to steal third base in the eighth inning of Pittsburgh's 4-2 loss to the Arizona Diamondbacks on Aug. 18. Marte's right hand was stepped on during the play. He remained in the game but hasn't played since.

Before getting hurt Marte was batting .282 with 11 home runs and 33 RBIs. He is third in the NL with 35 stolen bases.

Andrew Lambo was called up from Triple-A Indianapolis to replace Marte.
