Published Jun. 3, 2013 1:00 a.m. ET

The Pittsburgh Pirates have placed right-hander Jeanmar Gomez on the 15-day disabled list with an inflamed and strained right forearm and optioned outfielder Alex Presley to Triple-A Indianapolis.

The Pirates recalled right-hander Jared Hughes and selected the contract of right-hander Ryan Reid, each from Indianapolis, before Monday night's game against the Atlanta Braves.

Gomez was removed from Sunday's 5-4 win over the Cincinnati Reds with the injury after giving up four runs in the first inning. He is 2-0 with a 3.07 ERA in 12 games, including seven starts.

Presley was recalled from Indianapolis last Friday and is hitting .357 in eight games.

To make room on the 40-man roster, right-hander Phil Irwin was reinstated from the Indianapolis disabled list and placed on the major league 60-day disabled list.
