Boston Red Sox second baseman Dustin Pedroia had surgery Friday to insert screws into his injured left foot and will miss the rest of the Major League Baseball season, MLB.com reported.

The three-time All-Star is expected to be ready for spring training in 2011.

Pedroia, 27, injured the navicular bone in his foot on June 25 when he fouled a ball off of his foot in a game at San Francisco.

The 2008 American League MVP played briefly after a seven-week absence, but was placed back on the disabled list on August 20 due to continuing soreness.

He finishes the 2010 season with a .288 average, 12 homers, 41 RBIs, a .367 on-base percentage and nine stolen bases.
