Pads LHP Richard to have shoulder surgery

San Diego Padres starter Clayton Richard will have surgery on his left shoulder and is expected to miss the rest of the season.
Richard (2-5, 7.01 ERA) was moved from the 15-day disabled list to the 60-day DL on Friday, one of several moves made by the Padres. Richard has been sidelined since June 22.
Also Friday, the Padres reinstated first baseman Yonder Alonso and second baseman Jedd Gyorko from the 15-day disabled list in time to start against the San Francisco Giants.
Alonso was on the DL since June 1 with a broken right hand. Gyorko went on the DL June 10 with a strained right groin.
San Diego selected right-hander Sean O'Sullivan from Triple-A Tucson to start against the Giants. O'Sullivan, who graduated from Valhalla High in suburban El Cajon in 2005, was signed by the Padres as a minor league free agent in December.
Infielder-outfielder Kyle Blanks was placed on the 15-day disabled list with left Achilles tendinitis. He's hitting .256 with eight home runs and 34 RBIs.
Right-hander Miles Mikolas, who pitched one inning in his season debut Thursday night, was optioned to Triple-A Tucson.
Shortstop Pedro Ciriaco was designated for assignment. He hit .238 with one home run and four RBIs in 23 games since being acquired from the Boston Red Sox on June 14.
