Padres activate INF Hairston Jr. from DL

The San Diego Padres have activated infielder Jerry Hairston Jr. from the 15-day disabled list.

Hairston, a key contributor for the NL West-leading Padres was placed on the DL Aug. 28 because of a strained right elbow.

Manager Bud Black said Sunday that Hairston will be available as a pinch-hitter but might not be ready defensively for a few days.

Hairston is hitting .249 with a career high-tying 10 home runs and a career-best 50 RBIs. He filled in while shortstop Everth Cabrera and then second baseman David Eckstein served stints on the DL.
