Otero called up from minors to help A's pitching

Published Jun. 14, 2013 8:55 p.m. ET

The Oakland Athletics have purchased the contract of pitcher Dan Otero from Triple-A Sacramento on Friday and optioned left-hander Hideki Okajima to the minors.

The moves come one day after the A's needed to go deep in their bullpen in an 18-inning win over the New York Yankees.

Otero was 1-0 with a 0.99 ERA with the River Cats and was 15 for 15 in save opportunities. The 28-year-old right-hander is with his third team this season, having also spent time with San Francisco and the Yankees.

Okajima had a 2.25 ERA in five games with the A's since getting called up on May 17.
