Ortiz ejected for arguing strike

Published Apr. 10, 2010 3:07 a.m. ET

Boston Red Sox designated hitter David Ortiz has been ejected for arguing a third strike call against the Kansas City Royals.

Ortiz took issue with a called strike by plate umpire Mike Estabrook in the second inning Friday night, then was ejected in the fifth after striking out on a check swing.

Ortiz argued with Estabrook after the call, asked him to check with third-base umpire Bruce Dreckman and was ejected a few seconds later.

It was his eighth career ejection.
