Washington Nationals manager Davey Johnson likes to stay in shape. Apparently, that includes some pregame calisthenics in the dugout now and then.
Johnson was surprised to learn that the team's local cable channel, MASN, showed him doing pushups on the bench at Nationals Park during its broadcast of Washington's 3-2 loss to the St. Louis Cardinals on Monday night.
''I was trying to get some blood flowing. That's all I was doing,'' Johnson said before Tuesday's game between the teams.
''I didn't know it was going to be televised,'' he added.

At 70, Johnson is the oldest skipper in the major leagues.
Joking about his pushup routine, he said: ''Trying to get keyed up for the game and get going.''
