WASHINGTON -- Washington Nationals third baseman Ryan Zimmerman is scheduled to play five innings in left field Saturday night in his second rehab game with their Class-A farm team.

Zimmerman has never played the outfield in the majors or minors.

Manager Matt Williams says "He's ready. He's done a lot of work out there."

Zimmerman was placed on the 15-day disabled list April 13 after breaking his right thumb while diving back to second on a pickoff attempt the day before. He's missed 42 games.

The career third baseman has indicated a willingness to play left field. He's also practiced at first base. Left fielder Bryce Harper is out until mid-July following left thumb surgery.

Zimmerman went 0 for 3 with a sacrifice fly as the designated hitter Friday night in Potomac, Virginia.
