More shoulder surgery for Reds reliever Sean Marshall

CINCINNATI (AP) Left-handed reliever Sean Marshall will have more shoulder surgery next week, ending his chances of making a comeback in the final year of his contract with the Cincinnati Reds.

The Reds added three years and $16.5 million to Marshall's contract when they got him from the Cubs before the 2012 season for left-hander Travis Wood and two others. The Reds envisioned him as their setup reliever. During those three seasons, Marshall has made only 31 appearances because of shoulder problems.

The 32-year-old pitcher had surgery for a torn labrum last year, when he appeared in 15 games and had a 7.71 ERA. He had salaries of $5.5 million last year and $6.5 million this year, the final one on his deal.
