Does anyone remember the glory days of the Home Run Derby like I do? I’m not talking about Josh Hamilton sending moon shots out of Yankee Stadium — though that was awesome.

I’m talking about Ken Griffey Jr with his hat turned around. Those were the days when Mark McGwire took over Fenway Park. Sammy Sosa loaded up and unraveled on nearly every pitch for at least a 500-foot bomb.

That was when the Home Run Derby was at its prime. The All-Star Weekend was something everyone looked forward to during the season. It was a time for all other players to kick back and relax while their teammates dueled for the heavyweight belt of homers.

Somewhere along the line, though, the glitz and glamor of the contest faded away and fans lost interest. Now Major League Baseball is trying to revamp the contest, and it seems pretty interesting.

I don’t know about you all, but I’m pretty stoked to watch this thing. Over the years, it’s always been kind of boring watching the hitters take pitch after pitch — waiting for one in the wheelhouse.

This format will make it seem like a video game version of the derby. It’s going to be amazing.
