Mets RF Curtis Granderson sidelined with strained calf

Updated Mar. 5, 2020 2:13 a.m. ET

NEW YORK (AP) Curtis Granderson is out of the New York Mets' lineup again because of an injured right calf.

General manager Sandy Alderson says Granderson had an MRI that showed a mild strain. The right fielder is unavailable off the bench Thursday night against the Chicago Cubs and is expected to miss at least a couple of games.

Brandon Nimmo, recently promoted from the minors, played right field and batted leadoff in Granderson's place as the banged-up Mets opened a four-game series against the major league-best Cubs.

Granderson has a .323 on-base percentage with 13 home runs and 22 RBIs. He was a late scratch from the starting lineup Wednesday night in Washington but later delivered a pinch-hit single. He was removed from Tuesday's game with right calf tightness.
