With the Seattle Mariners looking for ways to generate offense, manager Lloyd McClendon opted for an...unconventional method of lineup construction on Monday night.

When compiling the lineup he'd throw out at the New York Yankees, McClendon rolled with slugger Logan Morrison as his leadoff man.

Yes, Morrison - the first baseman/DH type currently slashing .240/.321/.389.

When pressed by the media for an explanation, McClendon fired off a particularly unique rationalization (as Tweeted by MLB.com's Greg Johns):

As for Morrison, who admitted he has never led off at any level of his baseball career, he told the News Tribune's Bob Dutton the following: “He called me in the office,” Morrison said, “and he wrote me down as the first name (on the lineup), and I was like, `Oh…’”

With the M's looking for answers, their manager obviously isn't afraid of trying new things.
