PITTSBURGH (AP) Pirates left fielder Starling Marte left Sunday's game against the Cleveland Indians because of discomfort in his left side while batting in the fourth inning.

Marte motioned for a trainer after swinging and missing at a pitch from Danny Salazar.

Gregory Polanco inherited a 1-2 count as a pinch hitter, grounded out to end the inning then remained in the game in left field. Marte went 0-for-8 in the three-game series after entering with an eight-game hitting streak.

Normally the right fielder, Polanco was not in the lineup after going hitless in nine at-bats in his previous three games. He's hitting .200 in June.
