Mariners DFA Rickie Weeks to make room for Danny Farquhar

The Seattle Mariners took a flier on veteran Rickie Weeks as a potential DH/outfield type in 2015, but it hasn't paid off: the club designated him for assignment on Saturday to facilitate the return of reliever Danny Farquhar from Triple-A Tacoma.
In 95 plate appearances in 2015, Weeks was slashing just .167/.263/.250, and as Prospect Insider pointed out, only had three total extra-base hits (two of them being home runs).
With Seattle struggling to field a consistent offensive lineup, Weeks just didn't have a role, especially with his lack of consistent playing time.
Seattle now has ten days to trade, release or send Weeks to Triple-A (if he clears waivers).
Prospect Insider speculates that with Weeks out of the picture, sluggers Mark Trumbo (off to a tough start himself) and Nelson Cruz may have to split some time in the outfield.
