Who doesn't love free baseball?

Fans at Citi Field were treated to a 20-inning affair, which the visiting Miami Marlins won 2-1 over the New York Mets on Saturday. Adeiny Hechavarria's RBI single in the top of the 20th turned out to be the winner.

It was the longest major league game since the Mets won at St. Louis in 20 innings on April 17, 2010. It was also the longest in the history of Citi Field, which opened in 2009. By the way, the longest game in MLB history is a 26-inning 1-1 tie between the Brooklyn Robins and the Boston Braves on May 1, 1920.

Just crazy: Each team had a reliever work more innings than its respective starter.

New York ace Matt Harvey worked seven innings and threw 93 pitches, while the Mets' final pitcher, Shaun Marcum, usually a starter, tossed eight innings and threw 105 pitches. Marcum took the loss and fell to 0-7.

For the Marlins, Jose Fernandez opened with six innings and 97 pitches, while Kevin Slowey was Miami's seventh pitcher and worked seven innings, throwing 94 pitches. Slowey picked up the win, improving to 2-5.

Marcum and Slowey were scheduled to start Saturday until Friday's game was postponed because of rain — so they were actually available for the long relief stints.

Meanwhile, Marcum became the first pitcher to throw at least eight innings in relief since the Cubs' Scott Sanderson did in 1989.

Just crazy II: Miami's Rob Brantly and New York's John Buck caught the entire game

Big play: New York's Daniel Murphy being thrown out on a sacrifice-fly attempt in the bottom of the 12th. Miami rookie right fielder Marcell Ozuna threw out Murphy, who tried to run over Brantly, but the catcher held onto the ball after being sent flying.

Not the only marathon: Up north in Toronto, the Blue Jays outlasted the Texas Rangers 4-3 in 18 innings, equaling the longest game in each team's history. Rajai Davis hit a walk-off RBI single with two outs to send a majority of the crowd home happy.

It was the first time two games lasted at least 18 innings on the same day since Aug. 15, 2006, when the Cubs and Astros played 18 innings, as did the Diamondbacks and Rockies.

Wild stuff: The Rangers scored twice in the top of the ninth to tie it at 3-3. A.J. Pierzynski hit a pinch-hit RBI single with one out to cut the deficit to one and Elvis Andrus followed with a sacrifice fly to tie it.

Wild stuff II: Toronto catcher J.P. Arencibia caught the entire game, while Texas catcher Geovany Soto was pinch-hit for in the ninth.
