Last year Madison Bumgarner won the Silver Slugger award as a pitcher -- hitting .258 with four home runs and 15 RBIs. To understand why Bumgarner may be such a good hitter, we turn to the great Ted Williams. InThe Science of Hitting, Williams explains that hitting a baseball happens with "the wrists square and unbroken, as they would be at impact when an ax is swung on a tree." As we now know, Bumgarner loves to swing an ax in the offseason.
