Liriano throws five hitless innings for Twins

Published Mar. 20, 2012 3:58 a.m. ET

Francisco Liriano threw five hitless innings Sunday, and the Minnesota Twins allowed just one hit in a 10-0 win over the Pittsburgh Pirates.

The Pirates did not get a hit until Brandon Boggs singled off non-roster invitee Luis Perdomo in the eighth inning. Perdomo was the fourth of five Twins pitchers.

With an exception of one four-run inning in his last spring start, Liriano has not given up a run in his other 12 innings this spring. Liriano went 9-10 with a 5.08 ERA last year despite pitching a no-hitter game against the White Sox.

Jamey Carroll went 2 for 3 with a double and two RBIs after starting spring training 1 for 23. The shortstop signed with the Twins in the offseason after playing two years for the Dodgers.
