Justin Verlander to make first rehab start with Toledo Mudhens

Justin Verlander is one step closer to joining the Tigers rotation.

After pitching four shutout outings in a simulated game earlier this week in Oakland, the right-hander will make a minor-league rehab start for the Triple-A Toledo Mudhens on Sunday.

It will be the first time Verlander has pitched in Triple-A, as he made the jump from Double-A to the big leagues back in 2005.

Manager Brad Ausmus said that Verlander will throw between 80 and 85 pitches in Sunday's start, according to the Detroit Free Press.

When asked if Verlander is expected to make multiple starts in the minors, Ausmus told The Press "It's all going to depend on how the first one goes, then we'll make a decision."
