Is Rizzo a young Votto?

Anthony Rizzo is off to one of the best starts in his young career and his approach at the plate has earned him some high praise.

Through 16 games the Cubs' first baseman is hitting .345 and has an on-base percentage of .493.

Cubs manager Joe Maddon likes what he see in Rizzo so far and even went as far as saying Rizzo's at-bats have reminded him of 2010 National League MVP Joey Votto.

“Probably the best 'B-hack' – with two strikes – I've seen in a long time. He just makes adjustments,” Maddon told CSN Chicago. “Votto's like that. Rizzo and [Votto] kind of resemble each other. When the at-bat gets deep, Votto will choke up, do different things. I really appreciate that about hit at-bats.

“That's the thing I think young hitter just don't understand or work on enough. It's like one size fits all with their swings. They don't understand how to manipulate the bat head with their hands. I think Rizz does and I definitely know Votto does.”
