Indians' Tomlin sets mark for consistency

Published Jul. 4, 2011 8:52 p.m. ET

Indians pitcher Josh Tomlin has pitched at least five innings in each of 29 appearances to start his career, the only major league pitcher since 1919 to do it.

Tomlin came into Monday's start against the New York Yankees sharing the mark with Boston's Daisuke Matasuzaka (2007). Tomlin has been remarkably consistent during his brief big league career.

The right-hander has gone at least six innings in 15 of his first 16 starts. In his last three starts, he's 2-0 with a 2.70 ERA.
