Indians put Murphy, Swisher on DL day after early exits

Updated Mar. 4, 2020 7:48 p.m. ET

The Cleveland Indians have put outfielder David Murphy and designated hitter-first baseman Nick Swisher on the 15-day disabled list, a day after they both made early exits because of nagging injuries.

The Indians made the moves before Sunday's game against the New York Yankees. They recalled outfielder Tyler Holt and infielder-outfielder Zach Walters from Triple-A Columbus.

Walters, acquired July 31 in the trade that sent shortstop Asdrubal Cabrera to Washington, started in left field at Yankee Stadium

Murphy had been bothered by soreness on his right side. He tweaked his oblique on a swing Saturday and left Cleveland's 3-0 win after five innings. Murphy is hitting .262 with seven home runs and 55 RBI.

Swisher has been slowed because of his ailing right knee. He made a rare start in the outfield Saturday and came out in the eighth. He is hitting .208 with eight homers and 42 RBI.
