Indians' Peralta has fever, does not start

Published Jul. 16, 2010 6:01 p.m. ET

Jhonny Peralta is not in the Cleveland Indians' starting lineup due to effects of a fever.

Manager Manny Acta said the veteran third baseman did not take part in an off-day practice Thursday and will not start Friday night against the Detroit Tigers in the start of a four-game series.

Acta said Peralta told him he was feeling better and available to play. The manager decided to give him some more rest.

Peralta is hitting .252 with six homers and 39 RBIs in 82 games this season.
