Hammel's outing for Rockies cut short by injury

Published Jun. 11, 2011 11:46 p.m. ET

Rockies starter Jason Hammel was lifted after pitching five-plus innings against the Los Angeles Dodgers on Saturday because of a stiff lower back.

Hammel walked the first two batters he faced in the sixth inning before being replaced by reliever Matt Reynolds. Hammel allowed three runs, walked four and struck out one in the abbreviated outing.

He was making his 12th start of the season and entered the game with a record of 3-5 and a 3.66 ERA.
