Hamilton pulling for Cabrera Triple Crown

Published Sep. 26, 2012 1:39 a.m. ET

Texas Rangers center fielder Josh Hamilton said Tuesday he is rooting for Detroit's Miguel Cabrera to win the AL Triple Crown.

''I'm excited about it,'' Hamilton said. ''As a fan of the game, I enjoy watching other guys succeed in what they do.''

Cabrera started Tuesday leading the league with a .331 batting average and 133 RBIs. Hamilton has 43 home runs, one more than the Detroit third baseman.

Hamilton led the AL in home runs and RBIs most of the season. Cabrera has made a push in September with nine home runs and 24 RBIs.

Boston's Carl Yastrzemski was the last AL player to win the Triple Crown in 1967.

''It would be pretty special,'' Hamilton said. ''He's got to hit more home runs. I'm not going to stop playing. But I'm rooting for him.''
