Hamels doesn't address St. Louis speculation

Cole Hamels was dominant against the Cardinals on Monday, but was Monday's game more than just an April contest?

With Adam Wainwright's injury and the trade rumors constantly revolving around Cole Hamels and the Phillies, it was easy to connect the dots.

Perhaps Monday's start at Busch Stadium was a precursor of things to come. Perhaps Hamels will be traded to the Cardinals and finish the season with more starts at Busch Stadium.

However, while everyone was wondering if that could be the case, Hamels was having none of it.

“I don't think I'm going to address that, sorry,” Hamels told the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.

It remains to be seen where Hamels will finish the year, but if he does wind up in St. Louis, he will be pitching for an organization he has admired from a distance.

“Yeah, this is a great stadium,” Hamels said. “It's pure enjoyment to go out … you know you're playing a great team every year. Every year I've pitched against them they've been near the top of the division. It shows with the World Series (wins) they have and, obviously, with all the postseason appearances.”
