Former major leaguer Aaron Guiel has retired after five seasons in Japanese professional baseball.

The 38-year-old outfielder was limited to 11 games this season with the Yakult Swallows because of a back injury.

He batted .234 with 90 homers and 239 RBIs in 441 games over five seasons in Japan, all with Yakult.

Before coming to Japan, Guiel spent five seasons with the Kansas City Royals from 2002 and finished his major league career playing 44 games for the New York Yankees in 2006.
