Fuld feels fine a day after getting hit in jaw

MESA, Ariz. (AP) Sam Fuld smiled, even with a bulge on the left side of his face, a day after he was hit by a thrown ball during the Oakland Athletics' 3-2 victory over the Colorado Rockies.
''It could have been worse,'' said Fuld, who took batting practice Saturday and is exploring the use of a protective device for the left side of his face.
''He looks like he has a chew in,'' A's manager Bob Melvin said. ''If you saw the play, it didn't look good.''
Melvin said the outfielder, who is hitting .265 with a pair of doubles, two triples and six RBIs, would get the day off Saturday and remains day-to-day. CT scans at Scottsdale Healthcare Osborn Medical Center showed no signs of a fracture or concussion.
Fuld left Friday's game in the seventh inning at Salt River Fields after getting hit in the jaw by a throw from Cristhian Adames, who was trying to complete a double play with pitcher Eddie Butler covering first.
''He just missed the throw,'' Melvin said of Butler.
